posted on 04/05/2009
There have been five great waves of extinction in the planet's history, all caused by a natural disaster or rapid climate change. Scientists are now saying that we have entered the sixth wave of extinction. But this time to problem is not a giant asteroid, but it is people. This time, we are to blame.
But you can help! See the list below to do your part.
1. Buy a T-Shirt. Visit www.waddlebird.com, a clothing company based out of Northern California that donates 20% of profits to Conservation International. They have helped save over 150 acres of tropical rainforest in Conservation hot spots.
2. Sign the Petition. "Stop the Clock on Species on Extinction". Over 60,000 people have signed the petition. Join the fight now. Visit: http://www.conservation.org/act/get_involved/pages/stoptheclock.aspx
3. Get Educated. Read the recent time article at: http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/article/0,28804,1888728_1888736,00.html
4. Reduce your Carbon Footprint. Global warming is changing our environment much faster than species can adapt. Habitats are being destroyed at an alarming rate. Every little bit helps. See how Environmentally Friendly you are: http://www.nature.org/initiatives/climatechange/calculator/
5. Get Involved! Go be proactive and make a change. Promote awareness and get others educated.
