Advice On College Life: Buying Appliances
posted on 06/22/2009
Uh Oh, hold on a minute! Anyone considering buying appliances to use at college, especially in a dormitory, should find out what is permitted. The types of applicances, their electrical wattage, and their safety features are often regulated by school (fraternity house, etc.) policies.
Once an in-coming student is familiar with the regulations it is also useful to know whether the school or other living situation already provides some appliances, either as part of fees or for an additional rental agreement. And yes, it is always good to find out whether roommates want to combine resources so everyone can have more options.
With answers to these questions handy, it is time to shop. There are many great appliances with combined functions. This requester is trying to decide between a toaster and microwave, but it is not at all necessary to make this choice. There are several different types of combined toaster-microwaves. For instance, Sharp makes a combined microwave-toaster oven, while Daewoo has a model that is a microwave with a built in side-by-side toaster. In general, it is often useful to be able to answer such either-or shopping questions with a resounding "Yes!"
