Advice On Communicating With Learning Teams
posted on 07/01/2009
Communicating effectively plays a vital role in my current profession as an educator. Objectives and goals are more likely achieved when adequate communication is present. Within my profession, I constantly express my thoughts, ideas, and concerns to other staff members. This allows others to view a different perspective which may be beneficial. Everyone's input is valued which creates a more efficient working environment. I also communicate clearly and concisely to students my expectations and targeted goals. This way, students know what is expected and can apply themselves accordingly. Believe, this stepping stone goes a long way. Ultimately, resulting in a quality and conducive product.
Participation within a learning team helps with the development of your social skills. At times, I would become very shy and reserved just as many others. However, when working in a learning team, keeping to myself is not an option. Nothing can or will be accomplished if everyone is mute and reluctant to share their ideas and suggestions. Each learning team member possesses something valuable to add to the team. The different perspectives, opinions, and experiences can create a wealth of information that can be utilized within the team, especially when completing a project or task. Within my last graduate course, our class was sectioned into learning teams. We each came from different backgrounds with conflicting views. I instantly thought that we would face difficulty in formulating mutual agreements at which our projects would be a disaster. Needless to say, I was wrong. Our conflicting views created dynamic papers and projects.
When working within a learning team, be sure to create a list of goals, objectives, schedules of availability, reliable forms of communication (cell phone, email, etc..), and any possible challenges with agreeable resolutions together. As the saying goes, "It takes a village to achieve progress." Good luck.
