Advice On College Life And Teenage Issues
posted on 08/06/2009
It was not long back that I was in my teens. Teenage life is the best part of ones life and all of us try to make the most out of it. Some of us venture out new possibilities in ourselves, while some others work upon their existing skills and try to bring out the best in themselves. However, there are some teenagers, who in their attempts to try out everything in college life get into the web of alcohol and drugs and by the time their parents realize it, it is already too late.
College life looks like a sudden release from the disciplined lives of school as well as lot of other restrictions, which are lifted on account of having crossed a certain age. This is even truer for the teens, who get admission in distant colleges and take up to the hostel life free from the questions as well as restrictions imposed by parents and guardian. Where some of the teens acts responsibly and take time to adjust with the new environment, some of them prefer jumping into the pool with others, who appear to be more cool and fun-loving.
This is not to say that one should not have fun in college. College time is the real party time of our lives but there are a few things that need to be kept in mind while starting off the journey on the road of college. The very first year of college seems to be an enticing period where teenagers want to assert their freedom by any means, be in partying till late or trying out new things like drinking and smoking up. Some teens take up drugs just because it sounds cool and gets them into a particular class of the college which very often comprises of the most popular guys and girls.
One should be very conscious while making new friends in college as the company in college can determine the path of your life. This is not to say that you do not befriend certain people, but that make sure you befriend more people, who are from a similar background or at least of similar mindset. This would not only help you maintain your motivation towards your goal but also ensure that you find friends, who can cater to your emotional needs as well.
Many a times, teens fail to understand the bandwagon effect and also fail to consider their economic status while choosing company. This is to highlight the point that many teenagers try to copy the more popular peers even at the cost of falling neck deep into debts, which might later develop into a habit. Some teenagers also get into habit of drugs or gambling, because their richer or more popular friends do so. Some teens also start visiting call-girls at the insistence of friends and get trapped in the net of more debts and even get into illegal activities for repaying those debts.
This might seem like an absolutely negative picture of a college life, but that is not true as college life is actually the most important step to your future and it is in your hands to make it or destroy it. A little caution and a strong will can ensure that you enjoy your life to the fullest and do not need to regret about anything later. The first focus of college life should be studies but it need not be the only focus. You can work upon your partying skills, venture your wild spirits and even your adventurous spirits, but everything should be in a limit.
No one is asking the teenagers to quit their night lives or having a cigarette or a few drinks at a party, but there are a few things they should be considerate about, especially because it is not just their lives and aspirations that are at risk but also the aspirations of their parents and the society as a whole.
