Advice On The College Experience
posted on 09/10/2009
First of all I'd like to say congratulations for either already attending college or at least thinking about attending. All you seem to hear from people nowadays is that without a college education you can't get anywhere in life. While it might be more difficult for some people, if you have the will to succeed you don't necessarily have to go and there are plenty of alternatives.
Turn in everything early.
Now I'll assume that you've decided you're going to college. Well the best advice I can give you in this entire article is to apply as early for everything in college. Turn in applications early, fill out your FAFSA early, turn in all your schools work in as early as possible. College seems to represent procrastination for many people but that is where all the big problems arrive for college students. After dealing with these things for years now I really understand that it makes it much easier on everyone if you just set goals and deadlines so that you won't have headaches later.
Don't be afraid of your new freedom.
An important part of the college experience is leaving home and developing a new sense of freedom. This is hard and will take getting used to. Life will go on regardless of how much you miss home or don't want all your responsibilities so try to enjoy the good things that happen and really try hard to get things done when things get rough. The more effort you put into the situation the better results you will see, as is the case with most things in life.
Enjoy the experience and learn from it.
The most important part of college besides the work is the experiences that you will be presented with. Part of the expectation from the companies people will work for is that you've already dealt with lots of work and that you can deal with new experiences well when they arise. So keep this idea in mind while handling situations that arise. Try to learn from the things you go through and you will not only get a great education but will also become a better person.
