Advice On The Day Before And Morning Of Your Marathon
posted on 09/30/2009
By the time the day of the big race arrives, most of the preparation has already been done. Months and months of training and miles upon miles of running have been completed. A diet high in carbohydrates has been adhered to, as well as regularly getting the nutrition your body needs to sustain the running machine it has turned into. Now on the day before the race, and the day of the race, what more can a person do?
The key to the days before the marathon is continuing the good habits you have gotten into during your training process. Eating right is one of these key components. "Carb loading" is a popular and beneficial way to fuel your body for the endurance challenge ahead. Basically, the term refers to the large intake of carbohydrates the day before the run. An easy form can be pasta, with spaghetti being the most popular choice. It is important not to overdo it, but make sure your tanks are full for the race.
For a morning race it is important to get up early enough to make it to the race with time to spare, in case warming up is needed. Sometimes this can take a good deal of planning, since oftentimes one will take public transportation to the race site. For example, many people take the train into downtown Chicago the morning of the race.
The night before it is a good idea to get everything together and have it ready to go. This includes your race number, all your gear, and energy gel packets. This will help to relieve some of the nervousness you will be feeling and allow you to get a full night of sleep, which is extremely important.
When the race finally arrives, keep your spirits high with the thought that you have put months of training into this event. This is the time when all that training will pay off.
