Advice On How To Become A Successful Avon Representative
posted on 10/16/2009
So you have started your journey to making more money by becoming an Avon representative. Perhaps you are just leaning towards signing up with Avon or want to brush up your skills. Either way, you've come to the right place.
About Me
I am new to Avon, but I have experienced great success within the past year of selling Avon. I am a 27 year old mother to three and one baby on the way. I started selling Avon because I really needed to. My husband has had numerous lay offs within the past year and a half and I had to supplement our income.
How is Your Current Customer Base?
To improve your sales, you must first look at your current customer base. How many customers do you have? What are your average sales with each campaign? How much would you like to increase these numbers by with every campaign? Once you answer these questions, you will have an idea on what you need to do and start thinking about exactly how to do it. Remember, reasonable goals are the most rewarding!
Order more Sales Brochures
How can you get more customers if you don't have brochures to pass out? My general rule of thumb is to order 10 more with each campaign than the number of customers I already have. Not everyone is going to order from every campaign book, but it is a good idea to drop them a book anyway. You never know when someone will visit their house and sit down to browse an Avon book! I've had this happen on numerous occasions and I didn't have to put hardly any effort into getting that customer!
Advertise Whenever & Wherever You Can
What I love about Avon is that you don't have to pressure people to buy it. It's economical and often times cheaper than the leading discount store prices. People love to buy it because it has been a household name for over 100 years. I always carry a few copies of the latest brochure in my purse. When sitting in a waiting room, I will pull out a book and browse. This not only helps me to familiarize myself with the new products, but also lets people see that I have Avon available.
My SUV has a large back window. I have my "Authorized Independant Avon Representative" signage on that large, lovely window! It also contains my name, number, and website. Once again, I have promoted my business without a lot of effort.
Facebook and Myspace are easy, free ways to promote new products. I love to post when I receive Avon orders which lets my current customers know that their products have arrived and also gives me a chance to reach out to new customers who may want a brochure. Plus, it's totally free and gets the word out!
I have even delivered books with a flier introducing myself as the "Avon Lady" of the neighborhood to each and every door in my subdivision. It took an hour of my time, but I also got to know the neighbors and gained ten new customers! It doesn't sound like a lot, but in one hour I met my goal of new customers for the entire campaign.
Don't Forget to Follow Up!
When you hand out new brochures, make sure you have each and every person's contact information. Follow up is crucial as some people may not remember when the order is due. If you give them a friendly reminder call or email, you will remind them that they need to place an order!
Always get email addresses. You can add these to your Avon account and automated emails will be sent to each customer when there is a free shipping code or a special promotion going on. All my customers seem to really enjoy these emails! They also love to shop from my website!
Don't Get Discouraged
Sometimes sales don't go as smoothly as you would like. I have a rough campaign every now and again when my sales are lackluster. But instead of getting discouraged, I work harder with the next campaign and oftentimes exceed my goal. Like the old saying goes, "If at first you don't succeed, try, try again!" Good luck to all you fellow Avon representatives.
