Advice On Dropping Out Of High School
posted on 10/19/2009
There's no argument; high school really sucks. There doesn't seem to be a person in the world who doesn't have many negative memories and stories of the horrible four years that are dedicated to high school. The work is boring and overall pointless, the kids are petty and backstabbing, the teachers don't seem to care, the activities are lame, and the whole day just seems wasted. Sound familiar? Many high school students consider dropping out at some point. So why don't they?
Despite how lame high school is, it is actually pretty necessary. High school is the best preparation available for college. Graduating from college with a degree of your choice is the best preparation for a well-paying, enjoyable career. It's been proven by multiple studies that high school dropouts make a significantly lower income than those who graduated from high school. On average, high school dropouts miss out on making an extra one million dollars over the course of their life time that could've been made if they had simply graduated from high school.
Dropping out of high school also negatively affects others. The nation's economy loses billions of dollars every year because of high school dropouts who could've contributed to earning not only more money for their own household, but more money for the nation as a whole. State and nation economies are greatly aided by high school graduates, and subsequently hurt by high school dropouts.
Schools are slowly making efforts to help students stay in school through many programs. However, the schools can only go so far; students must make the effort to show up to school and put in the effort required to graduate. A serious approach must be taken to each subject in high school, no matter how mundane or useless the material appears to be, in order to graduate on time with a valid high school diploma.
