Advice On Starting A "Serious" Relationship
posted on 10/19/2009
When is the best time to take a relationship to the next level? When should you go from just seeing each other to seeing only each other? Most importantly, when does your infatuation turn into real love? A few steps will get you on your way to making this important life decision.
Give it time.
Whenever you first begin a relationship, even a casual one, it's easy to think that the feelings you have are more than they really are. It's an exciting time, after all! You're learning about someone new and fun, thinking of what might be, and getting advice from lots of different people (including this article!). It's best to just give the relationship time. Sure, the feelings you have might turn into love, but they might not. That brings you to the next step:
Don't make any rash decisions.
Thinking of moving in with a new boyfriend/girlfriend, getting a joint checking account, or buying a car together? All of these life decisions take a toll on us personally, so of course they would take a toll on a budding relationship. It's always best to save these life-altering decisions for someone you really know, not someone you are still getting to know.
Be yourself!
The worst thing you can do is let your potential mate fall in love with someone else, right? By putting on a false front or trying to be someone you're not, you are keeping your best asset - your own personality - to yourself. Put all your best traits as well as your biggest flaws on display. Then, when it is time to turn your casual relationship into a serious one, you'll know its for the best reasons and that it's grounded in truth, time, and trust. These traits will ensure your relationship will last!
Now - go out there and enjoy the process of finding your one, true love!
