Fireworks are an integral part of Independence Day, New Year, Halloween parties, weddings, bonfires and Christmas celebrations. Diwali is another event, also known as the " festival of lights ", where firecrackers gain more prominence and enjoyed by kids and adults alike, especially among Indians.
Parents must accompany their children during fireworks to ensure that they do not hurt themselves. You must keep matches and flames away from the sparklers unless you are lighting it up. Be careful in your endeavor to light up duds or it is better that you avoid them as they might unexpectedly explode in your face.
You must keep your beloved pets away from the hazardous fireworks and if possible, within their living quarters. Pets are easily frightened by the noise as well as fire display, and in order to escape, run far away from their homes or behave in an unexpected manner.
You must always purchase quality fireworks that follow government regulations. Some fireworks might require a matchbox or a sparkler, while others might light up with the help of an incense stick. You must place rockets in long-necked bottles because they might be dangerous and cause fire. Purchase only packets that contain information about handling, safety procedures and precautionary steps that you must undertake while playing with fireworks.
Light fireworks from a distance and move sideways right away to avoid any sparks from falling on your face. Extinguish any smoldering fire before leaving the spot. Avoid placing combustible items like oil, gas, paper, petrol, etc. near fireworks. Place burnt sparklers in water or place them on sides where nobody will put their feet.
After consuming alcoholic drinks, you must not light crackers or attend to children who play with fireworks. You must not light fireworks inside your house or near constructed structures. Always follow the local rules regarding fireworks like the winding-up time, type of crackers permissible, etc. In some places, there are restrictions about the public places where you can light fireworks.
Playing with fireworks must be fun and should not end up grievously. Flying sparks from firecrackers can cause permanent damage to eyesight or the skin. Protective step for safeguarding eyesight might include wearing safety glasses, normal eyeglasses or goggles. Parents must also be vigilant about their children to ensure that festivals are happy times until the end.
