Advice On Troubleshooting Common Dial-up Issues

Here are some of the basic troubleshooting steps for Dial-up Issues.
No Dial tone when dialing Out:
Check the modem is properly connected to your phone line.
Remove all other equipments from the phone line.
Check the RJ-11 jack for any bent or broken pins.
Try another phone line, if available
Check the phone line by connecting a phone for dial tone.
Run HyperTerminal Test
Use the Region Selection Program to reconfigure the modem's Country Setting
If its still not able to hear dial tone then do advanced modem troubleshooting
Modem drops connection during dialing out:
Place a "*70" in your dialing string to prevent call waiting tones from disrupting your session
Ensure that all the other handsets connected to the phone line are on-hook.
Remove all other equipments from the phone line
Check your telephone cables, and if needed call your telephone service provider
Try another phone line, if available
Reinstall the modem drivers.
Try dialing a different number via HyperTerminal.
Reseat the modem card
Modem is not recognized, not found, cannot be initialized, or cannot open port:
1. Uninstall and reinstall Modem Drivers
2. Clear the Startup environment (msconfig)
3. Run System Restore.
4. Reseat the modem.
5. Reinstall the operating system. (system recovery)
Configuring Dial-up Connection:
1. Click Start > Control Panel > Network Connections
2. Click on Create a New Connection
3. Click Next on the Welcome wizard
4. Select Connect to the internet option and click Next
5. Select Set up my connection manually and click Next
6. Select Connect using Dial-Up modem and click Next
7. Type Your ISP Name and proceed with the Next Button
8. Type the Number to Dial (Access Number) and click Next
9. Type User Name and Password and click Next
10. Click Finish
